Sir

I am desired by Mr Watt of Woodend & by the Patient
himself to write you an account of Mr Henrys
present situation: I saw him yesterday. You heard
of him from the country lately; the medicines you
ordered he has duly taken, & has paid exact attenti¬
on to regimen: his age, habit & other circumstances
I need say nothing of, as concerning them you already
are fully advised: I never saw him before.

He is at present much emaciated;- his nails adunque;
his feet swollen even though mostly lying in bed; when
he sits up his legs are soon in the same situation.
His tongue moist- not clean but covered with a slight
white fur not of the aphthous appearance.

His appetite almost gone; Thirst very considerable.
His belly- formerly natural; within these few days has
a tendency to a diarrhoea; Six motions in 24 hours:
urine, high=coloured with a copious brick=coloured
Sediment. He is very weak, fatigued by the least
motion. Breathing short & uneasy. Sweats very
much
. His pulse (at 10 o'clock forenoon) 112 in the
minute- not hard - nor full
. Sleeps very indifferently.
Twice he has spit a little blood - once pure- the
other time- mixed with his usual spit; both times, he
says, & his Nurse also observed it, the cough was
harder by much & more fatiguing than usual:
he has never had any other haemorrhagy.

[Page 2]

On Friday night the cough was uncommonly severe -
he felt a stitch in his left side - so soon as the cough
abated the stitch went off intirely.

It is with much regret I give you such unpromising
accounts of our Patient, as he seems to be a good
man & has a great share in the esteem of
Mr Watt & of all who know him in the Neighbourhood.

I look for your answer on Tuesday morning &
expect, as I appointed them, some of his friends
from the country that day; when what you advise
shall be duly adverted to.

I am with very great respect
Sir
Your Most Obedient Humble Servant & grateful
Pupil
