Govan Manse 26: February 1786
Very Dear Sir

It was [just?] the High Esteem I will ever have for a medical
Gentleman of Great merit in Edinburgh which stirred me on to promote with
Uncommon Earnestness the Contribution for the Royal Infirmary some very rich
Inhabitants from Glasgow I could not persuade to give any thing at all But Five
Guineas were Collected which I would not have thus troubled you to receive could
I have thought on any other proper Conveyance. I am in perfect Health being cured
of an Almost Desperate pain in the Throat by the Act of your Friend Dr Stevenson
But I am in a manner out of the World. This would have been sent long ago
had it been for an awk↑w↑ard Proposal to apply it to a different purpose - Mr Watson
may miss you or You may not be at Leisure - A Line from Mistress Cullen will satisfy
my {illeg} that the Carrier have delivered the Letter as above - I often [call to mind?]
the many Days sundays and others which I passed with Joy in your House at
Hamilton I came from Wishaw on the Wings of Desire to see You and whenever I
found You my Happiness was next to being Compleat - In truth these Days were
some of the happiest Days of my Life - Till the Hour of Death I will ever Rejoyce
to hear of your Happiness and of the happy and flourishing state all your Children
I offer Mistress Thom joins with me the most Respectfull Compliments
to You Mistress Cullen & Family I am

Very Dear Sir
Your most Affectionate most Obliged and
most Humble servant
William Thom
