For Mrs Sloane


Ailment proceeds from her fall from her horse. Nothing of gravel
By the fall the Bladder has recievd a shock, hence inflammation
& the suppuration. From her urine the ulcer seems much but
not entirely mended, & while it continus, will have strong [uri¬
ous?] pains ↑in pissing↑ & scalding after it. Difficult to cure after
lasting so long. Nature has done something & may be aided
to do more & the complaint may be much alleviated by avoiding all irri¬
tation.
Few internal medicines of service but one, which is safe
& has sometimes been useful below the Infusion ordered below
must continue it for some weeks before [despairing?]


Avoid costiveness & employ a medicine if necessary. but not aloes
or other acrid purgative but a laxatative out of grains of Flowers of sulphur Cream of Tartar Lenitive Electuary castor oil or if some sharper be necessary
use the [Pills?] & Jalopp compound according to the Edinburgh Pharmacopoeia last edition [{illeg} long to ge¬
this?] the Cream of Tartar & with Jalopp


Diet. avoid salted and highseasoned things. A little flesh
or fish every day but with a good deal of vegetables & if milk be
easily digested; frequently to [tea?] milk meats.


Take much drink, but of the mildest & watery kinds,
avoiding all malt liquors wine or spirits.


Avoid bodily fatigue, & much s walking. May go on horse
back at a step or in a carriage on smooth roads & go gently.

For Mrs Sloane

Take three drachms of Uva Ursi leaves, one drachm of sweet fennel seeds [corrtus.?] and a pound and a half of boiling water. Let it digest for 24 hours and strain. Label: Healing Infusion, half a gill twice a day.
