The Consultation Letters of Dr William Cullen (1710-1790) at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh

[ID:4981] From: Dr William Cullen (Professor Cullen) / To: Dr John Stewart / Regarding: Mr James Abernethie (Abernethy; of Mayen) (Patient) / 11 February 1785 / (Outgoing)

Directions for [James] Abernethie Esqr., a young man with consumption, for his journey from Edinburgh to Southampton. He evidently carried this letter with him for Dr John Stewart (see Doc [ID:2571] ); the advice for the journey may be aimed at his older sister, who seems to have been looking after him. Cullen writes: 'If I had been advised more early, I should have proposed his going to Madeira or some place in the South of Europe but it is too late now to go so far off and I hope it will be enough for him to go to the South of England'. He advises how he should break his journey, the kind of carriage, and diet he should follow.
