For Mr Benjamin Steuart
From the little you were pleased to tell me it appears to
me that your complaints depend upon a weakness of stomach
which often occasions a palpitation of heart. I think you maybe
relieved by the prescription on 'tother page. When you have tried
it for a fortnight please let me know its effects & the then state of
your complaints & I shall advise farther as well as I can

While you take the medicine I would have you abstain from all
kinds of malt liquor & for drinks to take water or water with a little
wine or spirit in it. In all kinds of strong drink you should
be exceedingly temperate. In diet avoid roots & greens of all
kinds. You may take solid food at dinner but you might
always to keep your stomach light, particularly at supper.
When the weather allows of it you will be much the better of
being often on horseback -
Take five grains each of preparation of steel and powdered cinnamon ten grains of pure white sugar Mix to make a powder and make in this manner twenty-eight doses Label: Stomachic powders one to be taken twice a day before dinner & supper in a little currant Jelly & to be washed down with a small cupfull of the following Tincture.
Take four ounces Tincture of Peruvian Bark and 6 ounces each of simple Cinnamon Water and Rose Water Mix. Label: Stomachic powder (↑Tincture↑) a small cupfull to be taken after every dose of ye Powders. -
