For Mr Norris


Complaints depend on an affection if his Kidnies
especially the left disposed to bread sand and small stones
& his urine will probably if inspected discover them.


Let him immediately begin to drink Lime Water
At first a ↑wine↑ glass full or half a gill two or three times a day
but increasing the quantity & frequency of his draught till
he can take from a Muchkin to a Chopin every day
if taken when the Stomach is most empty, they are
most likely to be of Service.


One other Medicine to be taken as below - Uva ursi
When the pains of his Stomachs are uneasy or his nights
very restless
or Symptoms of considerable irritation in
the Urinary passages appear, in these Cases he may take
from 20 to 30 drops of Liquid Laudanum but the repetition of
this is to be avoided as much as possible. and if should
induce Costiveness it must be removed by a gentle laxative
& by Castor Oil if his Stomach will bear it.


During the use of these Medicines he must be sparing of
of eating any Vegetables- particularly fruits & all acids
His Diet should be chiefly of animal food, but as it cannot
be entirely so, let him take of all the different kinds of
grain. with or without milk but frequently without it.


Drink- no fermented liquor if former habits
require some strong drink, he may take a little Spirits
& water with a little Sugar, but no souring- Ordinary
drink plain water or the mildest watery liquors.


frequent fresh air; but ni exercise, but of the very gentlest
kind -- If he should at any time be affected

with much pain in or about the Urinary passages &
his Pulse at the same time more frequent he may lose a
little blood
; but this is a remedy which at his time of life
is not to be practised without some necessity.


Blistering or Issues can do no good & may do harm
Bitters are superfluous, as the ailments of his
Stomach seem entirely symptomatic & such as I have
↑often↑ known to attend Nephritic complaints.

Take half a drachm of powdered leaves of Uvae ursi and so let there be made 64 doses. Label: Specific Powders, one to be taken in a glass of water every morning & evening and in eight days, he may another powder an hour before dinner every day- to be continued for three weeks & then intermitted &c.

Take two ounces of the best castor Oil and half an ounce of the best Jamaican Rum. Mix. Label: Laxative Oil
