For Mr Irwin

His rheumatism seems entirely gone; and the re¬
laxation which I apprehended might follow is not
considerable. However this is what we have to fearr
& I would have him return to the use of the Chaly¬
beate
and even to assist that with such a light
tonic as I have ordered below. I am glad he bore
his journey to Carlisle so well; for the preservation
I think of his health will depend much upon his
being able for a journey of some length. He should
set out before the middle of next month & should pursue
it steadily for some weeks to the South. If he is
to attempt a mineral water I prefer Tunbridge to
any other I know of. I hope the measures now
proposed will discuss entirely the itching which is
so much abated.

Take half an ounce of crushed Peruvian Bark, and a drachm each of orange, cinnamon and pomegranate. Leave to set in two pounds of boiling water for twelve hours, stirring from time to time, then add two ounces of Tincture of Peruvian Bark. After, strain with paper. Label: Tonic Infusion, two tablespoonfuls to be taken after every dose of the Chalybeate Tincture.
