Mr John Likly to the Care of Mr John Duguid
Merchant Glasgow

The complaints you are troubled with I have often met
with where there was not the least suspicion of Venereal
Taint
& there is no ground for it in your case as it
could not be Venereal without other Symptoms of the Same.

When you first make water in the morning draw the
foreskin close so that you force the Urine rund round
about the Neck of the Glans before it runs out.
About an hour after this wash all about the Glans
with the Lotion ordered below. Take a bit of
Soft old linnen make it four fold, dip it into the Liquor
& wash the Parts with it but have them without drying
The Liquor must not be warmed, neither should it be
cold. Letting the Phial for a little before the fire where
you are going to use it will be sufficient

If you continue this practice for a week or two, I hope
it will releive you entirely - Washing with the Lotion
once a day is commonly enough, but if there is any
soreness tenderness or itching for the Time present you may
employ the Lotion again in the Evening

For Mr Likly

Take eight ounces of rose water, half an ounce of vinegar distillate, and a drachm of sugar of lead. Mix everything. Label it: The Lotion.
