The Case of Miss Fullerton.
About the middle of February last Miss F. seemingly in good
health was siezed with a Spitting of Blood. Small quantities
of blood came up at several times with hardly any cough
& upon the whole the quantity was very inconsiderable and upon
the use of Bleeding, of the Tinctura Ros. and a cool Regimen
in a day or two it entirely ceased. During the course of it the
Pulse was hardly increased in frequency or fullness & very
little uneasiness was felt in the Breast
Since that time some spitting of Blood has several times
recurred but never to any considerable degree. Gradually
a Cough has come on & increased with a Mucous Spitting
Along with this some pain of the side has been pretty con¬
stant & the frequency of the Pulse tho never consi¬
derable has been increasing. Some flushing after
dinner has been observed & the frequency of her Pulse
has increased in the Evening but Hectic exacerbations
have not been remarkable. She See Sleeps tolerably well
without Sweating. Keeps her appetite & is not remarkably
emaciated or weakened - Her Monthly Evacuations have been
regular, but it is remarkable, that tho they have been
in the usual quantity, their ceasing has been attended in a few
days after with a recurrence of the Hæmoptoe. --
Ever since the first attack, she has kept strictly to a
diet of Milk and Vegetables & has abstained from
[Page 2]
wine & all strong drink, Has [been?] been frequently
blooded; and Blisters have been several times applied
to the pained part of her side & have generally relieved
the pain for some time. She has abstained from bodi¬
ly exercise but as often as the weather allowed has
been sometimes on horseback & very often in a carriage
with constant precautions however against cold.
In the way of Medicine. has frequently used
some Domulcent Pectorals & of late has been using
a Strong Decoction of Fol. Tussilag. Upon the
recurrence of Hæmoptoe the Acid of Vitriol has been
a good deal employed & it has now been thought proper
to try a Sea Voyage ----------------------------------
