Mrs. F-- aged 51
Complains of a Tremor, & a great weakness of
the whole right side, extending from the shoulders
down to the Toes. The power of voluntary motion
is considerably diminished in bothe extremities of
of the right side. When she speaks or reads aloud,
says she feels a peculiar weakness about her heart
attended with laborious respiration. When she
falls asleep on the left side, feels a sensation, as she
expresses it, "like a person a drowning" & starts
suddenly from her sleep. On going up stairs or
walking uphill finds herself very weak & her
respiration [hurried?] & laborious. Is often troubled with
a rigid Contraction of the Muscles about the Joint
of the right knee & of the Coraco-Brachialis a little
below its origin. Her Catamenia have not yet Left
her, amp; is quite regular in every respect.
These Complaints originated first about
four years ago in the winter time, when she felt a
very acute pain in the elbow Joint of the right arm
[Page 2]
at the external Condyle in the Course of the
muscularis nerve. The pain was circumscribed
to about the breadth of a shilling. It continued
during the whole winter & spring & went off
in the summer & left a numbness extending
from the wrist to the Tips of the fingers The
winter following the pain returned in the
opposite side of her arm & went off as before
the winter following again, it returned in the
muscles of the humerus & has continued pretty
violent ever since ↑X↑ She has applied to
several Physicians, & used various remedies,
but without the smallest evident advantage.
Has used the Cold Bath but without relief. Has used
white mustard to no purpose, but was always very
costive after it-- Is rather inclined to be costive.
Has used Exercise very freely & has always been
accustomed to rise early. Her Legs are swelled
considerably but her right much more than the left
this began about eight years ago when she
had a miscariage--
