Dublin March 9th. 1784
Sir

I beg leave to trouble you with a Satement of
my Health since I had the pleasure of seeing you in Edinburgh
in December Last. -

Shortly after I left Edinburgh I was attacked with a moving
Pain in my right Side from my Ribs to my Back nearly, &
to my Hip bone sometimes pretty accute at othertimes but -
trifling, yet never quite free from it, Effected as if partly
Rhumatic & partly an Obstruction in the Liver & about
a Month since was attended with a pain in my right Shoulder, at
the top, but not accute or Severe, for these have, by advice, stop'd
taking your persciption & substituded Huxham's Tincture of Bark
Saline Draughts &c Am of late easier of those Complaints, have
been advised a Blister on the Side & advised against it for
fear of too great a Shock & Inflamation to the part - Shall be
thankful for your advice on this Head. -

Have Still a difficulty of Breathing, or badish resperation,
my appetite good & not so voratious as sometime since, my
Eyes
& Complection not so clear as usual before Sickness, say a little
tinge of Yellow, my Urine Yellowish, but does not dye Linen,
& have observed myself feverish periodically about Spring Tides
slighter fits of late & not regular - Upon the whole I am much

[Page 2]

stronger & better than when at Edinburgh, have been pretty
much in the Country but cou'd not take much Exercise
owing to the badness of the Weather - I have the Highest
respect for your Opinion & shall be much obliged to you for
your advice so generally as you may think necessary

And am Sir your most Obedient Humble Servant
John Haighton

P.S.
I Have not any swelling or Hardness observable in my Side
Spits a good deal of Phlegm, at times,
Sweats pretty freely, some Nights, not heavy nor Constant
a great tenderness in my abdomen or lower Belly, keeps it warm only
Continues Tar water, from which think have benefit -
shall rest from other medicines for a time
