S: S: a Roman Catholic Clergyman, aged 42, of the
sanguine temperament, after spending the greatest part of his life
in religious & Literary retirement; Enjoyd a good state of health,
till these last three years, when he came into possession of a
very good Estate by the death of his Brother, which not only
occasiond him to change (and that suddenly) his former mode
& manner of living –– but unfortunately induced him to give
in to habits of intemperance –– Since this change has never
had a regular fit ↑of↑ Gout which, before he was subject too, but
only momentary, in fingers, toes, ankles, elbows & knees.
The attack's in Stomach, were generally repell'd by such medicines
as were judg'd most eligable & proper by the Faculty.

Mr S is now very much debilitated & emaciated, –– complains
greatly of cramp-like pains in Leg's & feet as at times
to force him out of bed, has frequently an inclination to make
water which he always does with exquisite pain
, the Urine
is remarkably high-colourd & turbid especially in the morning
frequently discharges a small quantity of congeald blood
at other times the urine has the appearance of being mixd with
fluid bood & afterwards a small quantity of mucus in it
After drinking any liquor the Urine is observ'd to be clean &
limpid. With these complaints the affection of the
Stomach
seems most distressing, as always being oblig'd
to rise from Dinner to throwing up every thing he has eat, im¬
mediately has an inclination to go to stool, which are extreemly
fœtid and of a darkish appearance, not exceeding two or
three in a Day –– Has been subject to the blooding Piles, for
sometime stop'd. –––– Mr. S is affected with a

and clean as ever –– He frequently ↑complains↑ of Rigours & shiverings, succeeded
sometimes with a perceptable heat, but never Sweats, Skin
always dry. –– Pulse rather strong, Tongue rather moist but
complains in the Morning of a clammy taste in Mouth. – Blood

Mr. S. has taken a variety of tonic, antispasmodic, and demulcent
medicines

relief. Chalybeate Water strongly impregnated with fix'd Air have
