Campbell surgeon in Dornoch he reecived and communi¬
cate to me by giving me a Copy thereof. Would have wrote
you before now my self had I been in condition so to do But
now think it proper to give you an account of the Condition
I am in & the manner I live that you may advise me what
is proper for me more to do for my Recovery. I refer to Mr. Camp¬
bells letter giving an account of my Condition at that time
and the Remedies he used. I am considerably better I am
in my Senses) (as you will see) although easily agitated
or Discomposed. Have no pain by spasm I am yet
unable to stand so [is?] obliged to be carried from Bed ↑to↑ the Chair
and from the chair to my Bed I can only move my hands
back and fore a little and my fingers one of which) the
little finger) is crooked from the Knuckle joint. I can
draw up my leg but not return it. Can turn myself in Bed
to the left side with Difficulty. The above is my present
situation by which it will appear that I cannot put on Breec↑chs↑
but wear P I am obliged to wear Peticoats I have given
up medicines for some time only I took the Electuary or
Physic you prescribed me to take three or four times. I am
free of the Complaint of heat of urine which I before had
I use Exercise one hour in the Day by the following Contri¬
vance Vizt. By having an elbow chair suspended with
Ropes to the Cieling of the Room two feet from the Ground
and six feet from the wall which after I am put in it
I move or shoud myself with a Pole in my left hand
The Chair is opposite to the windows which in a good
is opened. I take the Diet for Dinner the best can
be had and have my appetite tolerably well and use the
the portion of half a Mutchkin of wine after it as you

[Page 2]

ordered me ↑I take the same quantity↑ with the Supper warm with sugar which
is pottage or toasted Bread what I take for Breakfast
is bread & butter & half mutchkin cupfull of weak tea
and after it a cup of Socolate which I find has the Effect
to give me a Slipperie Stool once in the two Days I
forgot to inform you that I also take the Mustard Seed
for the same purpose once in the two Days. This
is all I think necessary at present to inform you of and
desire your Opinion - if you approve of my Diet & Drink
or if you think proper to Order me another Regimen -
Whether a Milk Diet will be proper to take next Summer?
I have ordered my agent Mr James Frazer to call for
you and give you Five Guineas for which I expect your
answer to this letter which will very much Oblige
