Att the desire of Mrs Thomson and family att New¬
ton 1 I give you the trouble of this acquainting yow of her situation since
I received your last, The paralytic symptoms are much the same as in my
last that is to say, She has in some measure the motion of her arm But
the fingers contracted a good dale, and streaching them out gives her pain
her legs continues in the same motionless state, But what we look for Strangu↑ry↑
Complaints I am affraid will turn out a Calculus in the Bladder of Urine
As I understand from those who attend her she has for a long time past been
troubled in the morning particularly with a stoppage and pain in voiding her
Urine
, and since last time I wrotte the pain that was was dreadfull makeing
her cry out so as to be heard thro' the whole house, this obliged me to withdraw
the medicated wine you orderd as well as Evry stimulating medecine used for the
Paralytic Complaints
, and order arabic Emultion, lintseed tea, Infusion of
Althea
, anoint with anodyne Balsam and foment the places frequently and
Even give Laudanum upon occasions. I likewise ordered Emollient Injection
Pills of Soape and Rheubarb, &c By which means the violence of the Symptom
are mitigated and relived, very often. But then dejection and Low Spirits
anxiety and frettefullness succede, together with want of rest and other

times She is quitt Cheerfull and very jochcouler and pretty well
so that I can think of no regular course to follow, but most do what I can
to releve whats the Complaint for the time. The Electricity has never been
tryd Mr Thomson being much against it, if from this hint yow can
direct me to any measure, it would releve me much, and I Belive
Gratefully rewarded by the Famely, as I will shew them your answer
for there Satisfaction I am with great regards and Esteem
