Mr William Macdowal.
Blood & Nerves wrong. -- Heat of his Blood & Spitting of
blood the most urgent. --- No Animal food till October
& if his symptoms are much better, he may take a
little Animal food till March; and then if there is the
least suspicion of a return of his Complaints, he must
again return to a Vegetable Diet -- His Diet when
abstaining from Animal food - should be milk & grain
Garden things - ripe fruits & dried fruits &c.
No Animal food at Supper --- No Strong drink
Avoid cold; but fresh air & gentle exercise very necessary.
Avoid warm Chambers & other occasions of being warm.
Avoid writing much at one time if business can any
ways allow of it. --
To use the Cooling Mixture; trying it for a month and
then intermit it & so on. - Bleeding only to be practiced
when Symptoms are very urgent -- As to cold bathing not
at present & I must here (↑know↑) how he goes on before I can
determine with regard to it ---- Let him try the following
Take two ounces of Coltsfoot three drachms of Lichwort one drachm of leaves of Ground Ivy. Boil from [libjjji?] one pound three drachms of [fenam?] Extract of Liquorice one drachm of Seeds of [Water Hemlock?] Strain and Label: --
