Berwick August 30th 1778
Sir


By this time the effect of the Medicines
by your Prescription should seem to have had a
fair trial, and is as follows. thirst much less, Pulse
not near so hard tho frequent
, flushing of the face
and heat in the Palms of the hands not so frequent,
cough and difficulty in breathing not so great, the
matter spit up not tinged with blood except now &
then in the morning; difficulty or rather pain in
either side when attempting to be still the same, rests
better at night this tho the Paregoric is given over; costive¬
ness
very troublesome thoMagnesia is frequently
used, Menses appear'd in considerable quantity
bout four weeks ago, tho there has been no alteration
since, only about a week ago more than ordinary
pain cough & difficulty of breathing were present,
which in three or four days went off, she was not
bled as the Menses were expected to appear & the approach
of which likely occasion'd the Pain. The Blister is still
open & discharges plentifully, the Medicines are still
continued, tho the Goats Whey turns disagreeable &
with your Permission she shall leave it off; riding
continued regularly twice in the day; Cow whey con¬

tinued, tho in a amaller quantity as thirst is not so vi¬
olent, Habit much emaciated and very weak.


This is her situation at present, and if you
please to make any change, I shall be very hap¬
py to hear from you by the first Post.
