Mrs B. aged 70. A Lady of
a dark complexion & slender
make - Is at present affected
with pains in her Legs & Thighs
which are a good deal swelled
& pit on the slightest pressure
she likewise feels a numb¬
ness & coldness in her feet &
Legs. The pain in her Legs
is very accute & pretty con¬
stant & she [thenks deep?] seat¬
ed; that in her Thigh is only
severe when the part is ex¬
tended by her sitting up through
the day -- The swelling in
her Legs & Thighs are much
deminished in the morning

& always become swell increase
about bed time - The Lady is
has so little the use of her Limbs
that she cannot sit down or
rise from her Chair without
assistance & when on foot
she needs some aid to walk
in her Room.
[P.?] 1 heat & Bowels natural. ↑No Thirst↑ Appetite
pretty good. Urine sometimes
scanty & high coloured, skin
hot tho' she complains much
of cold -- Sleeps but indifferent¬
ly in the night.
The Legs were at first Itchy &
had on them a dry scabby er¬
[Page 5]
ruption which is now gone.
The pain {illeg} ↑is↑ of
five Months standing - the debi¬
lity & swelling have during
that time been gradually in¬
creasing. The swelling of the
Thighs is only of three weeks stand
& seems to be daily increasing
upwards. . . .
Knows no Cause for her Complaints
& is very much averse to Medicine
Previous to this attack she
has long enjoyed perfect health.
Friction, Flannel, & the
exercise of a Carriage have been
the only Remedies employed &
we cannot say much benefit

has been derived from any of
them -------------
