For Miss Polly Hamilton

1. Whatever is at bottom of Miss Hamiltons ailments
I think they are likely to be mended by washing out
her blood with Salt Water.

2. For this purpose let the Salt water be taken up in
the the Stream of the Flood Tide about an hour or
thereabouts before high Water or by dipping as
deep as conveniently may be. The Water taken up
is to be put into very clean bottles & very well
corked.

3. When Miss Hamilton is to use this water
it is to be mixed with an equal part of fresh
Spring Water & if even this mixture shews much
disposition to prove purgative; the salt water
is to be mixed with two parts of fresh. ----

4. However the mixture is made; of this mix¬
ture Miss should begin to drink in the morning
about seven o' clock taking then for the first day
half a gill & repeating it every half hour till
she has taken three draughts.

[Page 2]

5. If this quantity purges it must be diminished
or at least not increased for some days. But as
is more probable if this quantity does not keep
the belly open it must be gradually increased --
every day till it is found to keep her belly open
& no more. It may be increased either by
the number of draughts or the quantity of each.

6. While she is taking the Water in the mornings
she should walk about in the intervals as much
as the weather allows & when the whole draughts
are finished she should walk out for half an hour
before she takes breakfast.

7. After she has drank the water for a fortnight
she may bathe in the sea ↑twice or thrice a week↑ but it must be an hour
or at least half an hour after the bathing & when
she has fully recovered heat before she begins to
drink the water for that morning.

8. The Course of Salt Water is to be continued for
six weeks or two months but then it should be
intermitted for at least as long.

9. During this Course Her Diet may continue as
regulated at present.
