Mr Turnbull Concerning Mr Allan.

Your blistering has been successful but we suspect
that the same causes which brought on the Anasarca
may bring it on again & that they still subsist
while his urine is still in so small quantity therefore
precautions still necessary by both Diuretic &
Hydragogue medicines. We are neither of us ac¬
cquainted with the virtues of the Briony root
we have neither employed it ourselves nor seen
it employed by others, we cannot therefore advise
it & tho we believe it may still be found in
some of our Druggists shops but we have not had
time to seek for it nor necessary to send it till we
know that Mr All. or his friend insist upon it.

What we propose is to use Cream of tartar as a diuretic
by taking a dose of a drachm and a half 4 times
a day adding to such a dose 4 grains of ginger.
If these do not purge him they may be increased
to 2 drachms each; & the dose of Jalap & Cream of tartar
every 4th or 5th day as his strength can bear. On
other days on which he does not take the Purgative continue
your vinous Infusion &c. As to the Scrotum we cannot
advise unless we knew more, but trust to your discretion.
