Loose, undated case note of an unnamed patient whose various symptoms appeared after 'a fall upon the Pavement'. Letter found with other 1775 letters, but the symptoms and other internal details closely match those of the Mr Welsh in Cullen's response in document ID:347, so it has been assumed this is the same patient and that Cullen was the addressee.

By a fall upon the Pavement the following Symptom
appear'd ----- The Pain ↑at the joint of the [thih?]↑ was immediate and so acute that
he could not rise but was oblig'd to be carid and supported
home - Blood was taken in about half an hour after
The Pain increasing the Part was frequently rubbed
with the Anodyne Balsam and continued till near
the middle of may when every thing seemed to
promise well ----- On the 16th of June a severe
pain was felt on the side attended with a spitting
of Blood and Cough -- Blood was taken /12 oz/
the Pain continuing a Blister was applied which
produc'd a plentiful discharge and gave almost
immediate dis ease but the spitting of Blood
continuing attended with some degree of Coughing
and the Blood rather in a dissolved state
Bark with a small preparation of Elxr Vitriol
was order'd which was taken till the 27th of June
when the spitting of Blood Cough and Pain of
the side seem'd to be quite gone and the
thigh {illeg} (↑recovering↑) strength
At this time a little above the knee the thigh
began to swell with [great Pain?] the swelling
increasing a Purge was orderd and the thigh to
be rubbed with volatile Liniment soon after
the leg and foot swelld of the Oedematous kind
Drastic Purges were taken frequently but with
no effect the foot and leg were sweated salt
water was recommended but had no effect
Garlick infus'd in Gin was taken for some time
the swelling abated visibly but there is still
a Considerable degree of swelling in both
foot and leg
