Miss Anny Dempster, is 24 years of age of a very
slender & delicate make, but has always been remark¬
ably healthy till she was seized with her present
complaints which was last Autumn, she had attend¬
ed her sister Miss Stewart during her illness, who died
last november of a phthisis, she was seized soon after her
sisters death with a cough & pain in the breast attended
with some degree of fever, these complaints were removed
in two or three weeks but as they began to abate she was
seized with a violent pain in the left side of the head -
- she had a carious tooth pulled out & was blisterd behind
the ear, which somewhat relieved her pain, it the↓n↓ moved
to her shoulders, from her shoulders it moves sometimes to her
haunches or knees, to her Ancle, sometimes to her wrist
but most frequently attacks the stomach, when sometimes
with sharp pain but always with an uneasy working
as she expresses it, & belching of wind, when the pain
shifts to her knees or shoulders the stomach is perfectly
easy & vice versa, of late the pains have attacked the stom¬
ach
more frequently in the night, insomuch that she seld¬
om passes a night without two or three hours uneasiness
till towards morning that the pains fix in the extremitys

of Gum Guiacum, which kept her belly open & seemed to give
relief for a week or two she after that took pills of equal
parts of extract of bark & Gum Guiacum with an infusion of
Valerian
& Calomus Aromaticus which seemed to give more last¬
ing relief than any other medicine but lost its effect at
last, she afterwards used tansy tea, chamamile tea, which
given during the pain in stomach & joined with a tea spoon
full of brandy, gives relief for some hours, every since the
last eruption of the menses which happened about ten days ago
& which have been always regular, she has enjoyed
some respite from her complaints, the fits of pain
are neither so long nor so violent as formerly - she
has never had the least cough, or quickness in her
pulse
since she was seized with the pain in her
head

Dr Douglas presents complaints to Dr Cullen, has been
unexpectedly prevented from calling on Dr Cullen this
