The elder Miss Betty is now suffering headaches, and he wonders if the weather is to blame. Little Betty is still suffering from nosebleeds, 'therefore this morning I put the Bloodstone Necklace around her neck', but so far it is not stopping the bleeding.	16? July? 1787?

Cullen has little further advice for the elder Miss Johnstone's numb limb, other than rubbing and exercise in a carriage. Regarding the little girl's cough and nosebleeds, he thinks there is 'no danger from the disease', but suggests washing her face in cold water or applying linen dipped in cold water to her forehead to arrest the nosebleeds.	16 July 1787

[DOC ID:5488]	Letter to John Johnstone of Alva, concerning the case of his sister and his daughter, both Miss Johnstone. Cullen now advises the use of an injection to relieve the elder Betty's bowels, as well as the laudanum. For little Betty's nosebleeds, he writes that 'the Blood stone necklace is a very innocent remedy, but more certainly I dont believe that it will have any effect in preventing the bleeding': however, 'with the help of her imagination, it may do something to stop it', and he has heard that making patients drink water into which the bloodstone has been dipped may work. He asks for more information as to how much blood she is losing via her nose.	17 July 1787
