Cantharis, Cantharadin, Cantharid. Powdered "Spanish Flies", the shells of the beetle Lytta (formerly Cantharis) vesicatoria. Used externally as an ingredient in plasters to create blistering, but poisonous as an internal medicine, except in very small doses.
