For Mr Maculloch


A weak state of nerves & therefore of stomach.


Go to the country & remain till November.


Fresh air either walking, which however must never be to
heat & fatigue him, or riding in the forenoon in cool
& in the mornings & evenings in warm weather.


Cold bathing either in a river or by washing with water
brought from a Spring or well; if no river near.
This bath should be taken when he gets up in the
morning, either before his ride, or if he does not ride
before his breakfast.


Diet milk & grain; at least breakfast & supper [Page 1]

At dinner he may take a bit of solid meat but very
moderately & fill up with &c. If milk make him costive
mix it with water gruel &c.


Drink plain water; if disposed to be costive he
may at dinner take small beer; but he should take
neither malt liqour, wine or punch. Tea & coffee
are bad for him.


Avoid cold. Keep early hours at night & in the
morning & let his bed be hard or at least firm.

Take five grains each of prepared Steel and powdered Cinnamon; ten grains of refined white sugar. Mix. Make into powder, twenty doses to be taken when required. Label: Strengthening powder, one every morning before breakfast either in a little currant jelly or water [berry?]

Take three ounces of Castor Oil, and ounce of Tincture of Senna Compound; Mix and Label: Laxative oil a tablespoonful in the mornings &c.
