The Consultation Letters of Dr William Cullen (1710-1790) at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh
[ID:886] From: Governor John Wood (of the Isle of Man) / To: Dr William Cullen (Professor Cullen) / Regarding: Governor John Wood (of the Isle of Man) (Patient) / 9 March 1774 / (Incoming)
Letter from John Wood regarding his own case, reporting that 'The Diziness and Cloudiness in my Head is much abated'. Dated 9th March, but a postscript explains that it was sent 'several weeks' later but this is an exageration because Cullen's reply, dated 23rd March, is ID:3690.

The attention which you have been kind enough to
bestow upon my Complaints, shall always have my
most gratefull acknowledgements, and as you have
given me leave shall further trouble you with the
following particulars ---- The Diziness and
Cloudiness in my Head is much abated, I begine to be
in better spirits, & to get more strength, no appearance
of any Eruption since you was wrote to, so if the other
symptoms ceases how long am I to continue the
medecines -- I had no disagreeable feelings
from either the morning or Evening Draughts --
Finding myself so much better I postpon'd the Pea
Issue, the more so as I have rather a dislike to that
Remedy if it can be avoided.
Upon the whole I think myself much Benefited from

your good advice, & hope to be able to tell you so in
Person, as soon as the Season will Permit. Mrs Wood
joins me in wishing you & Family all Health &
Happiness. Believe me always to be with much
Esteem & Regard
Dear Doctor
Your most faithfull &
Obedient humble servant
Isle of Man 9th March

The Day after writing the above, which is several
Weeks ago, I again found a greater degree of that
Diziness & Cloudiness in my Head, which made me
postpone forwarding this Letter, and likewise Deter¬
min'd me /tho' with reluctance/ to put in the Pea
Issue, which was done about a fortnight ago, and tho'
it does not as yet Discharge much, yet I think myself
a good deal better. The greatist Inconveniences at present
is, that the Bandage always slips over the Knee especially
in the night. It had almost escaped me to mention, that
for a little before and for sometime after I begane to take
[Page 3]
the Medecines, I was Seized with an uncommon
Sleepiness, at different times of the Day, fro[m which?]
I found great Relief
