For Mr Strangeways
Cachexy.

In trusting to the strenght of his Constitution and neglecting
a proper manner of living, Mr Strangeways has allowed a
good tenement to fall into disrepair, but I hope it may be kept
tolerably tight for a long time to come if the landlord will be plea¬
sed to give a little attention to it.

I hope the measures that were proposed for opening the belly
have succeeded, for indeed unless that is taken care of noth¬
ing else can be done to good purpose.

If the belly is now clear I would propose to keep it so py
by the laxative Tincture ordered below, of which tow two table
spoonfulls may be taken at bedtime, and if necessary another
may be taken a little before Dinner.

To strengthen the stomach let him take every morning
fasting and again at seven in the evening a small wine glass
full of the Stomachic Tincture: and after each of these
doses a Glass of of water with a tea spoonfull of the Chaly¬
beate Tincture in it. it.

Along with these Medecines Mr Strangeways must
take some Regular Exercise and observe a proper Diet. --

He should spend two or th three hours on horse on
horseback every forenoon that is tolerably fair.

In Diet he may take every day at Dinner a bit Beef Mutton
or Whole Fowl, but should avoid Veal, Pork and particularly Bacon
Goos & Duck or Wild fowl he may take a little of but it should
be sparingly. Of Fish he should not take at all. Roots Greens
or raw fruit, he must take very little of but of boiled or baked
fruit he may take moderately. any kind of light Pudding
is very Proper.

His ordinary Drink should be wine and Water and Malt
liquors of all kinds he should abstain from but every day at
dinner he may take a few glasses of Red Port or Sherry. I do
not say how much because it may be more or less according to
the Constitution but it should never be so much as to heat him in
any degree.

The less meat he takes at supper it will be the better
and even if can let it alone altogether.

At Breakfast he may take Cocao tea and when he is
to take a ride in the forenoon the foundation of his breakfast
may be laid with a fresh soft boiled egg. Chewing much to¬
bacco may be very hurtful, but after having been much in
that habit it is not safe for him to lay it aside altogether and
if he can to keep within bounds I would still allow him to take
a little.
