Miss Clarkson
Dear Sir

I am Sorry you are disappointed on Saturday
It was Owing to my being taken with an illness in the
Country which detained me two days longer there than
I expected. I shall now endeavour to Answer your
Queries as well as I can. The first I shall Answer
is with respect to Bathing which however fond Miss
Clarkson may be of it I hold to be very unfit for &
think it might prove exceedingly hurtful to her.

With respect to the Goat wheys doing good or ill
I hardly suspect the latter unless some accident
happens to give her a Severe fresh Cold from the
weathers proving very cold & wet or from her
Lodgings being very bad. If however after a weeks
trial and when she is gone the length of a Mutckin
or more of the Goat whey if she shall find it to
be heavy on her Stomach, to take off all appetite
for Breakfast to to prove very windy on the stomach

and raise pains there or that it proves windy, Griping
and purging in her bowels. These are all marks of the
Wheys not agreeing with her and if these effects do not
cease or abate upon further trial or upon diminishing
the quantity I would conclude that the Whey does not
agree with her will therefore do her no Service and
after a fair trial of a fortnight she may quit it. But
let me advise you to let Miss Clarkson know nothing
of these possible effects as She may possibly fancy
them before they happen. As to the good effects of the
Whey upon her Ailments you cannot Judge of them
till after a longer trial and therefore unless some
cross accident happen or that you meet with ex¬
ceeding bad weather you cannot have any considerable
benefit under a month and I shall think it very
proper for you to Continue in the Highlands for
full Six weeks. Wishing you heartily success I am
