Mr Fallowfield.
I am favoured with yours of the 12th. and
am sorry to find that neither your continuance
at Moffat nor the use of the Ointment I had pre¬
scribed have answered expectation. I wish you had
been more particular in telling me the operation
and effects of the Ointment for upon other occasions
as I think of the same kind I have had singular
good effects from it. I shall however very
willingly give you further advice. I have here
on other page given you a Prescription for a
saline solution and would have you to take
three times a week such a dose of it as will
move your belly once and on the interveening
days you will please take a bottle of the Decoction
also ordered on other Page. Please take notice
that it is the Bark of the root of Mezereon

that is only useful and therefore that you should
take that bark as peeled off from the larger twigs.
It bears drying pretty well but should not be kept
very long. Wishing you heartily relief I am

For Mr Fallowfield
Take one ounce each of Soluble Tartar and Glauber's Salts, half and ounce each of Spanish sea-salt and polychrest salts, two ounces of Pure cinnamon Water and eight ounces of Spring Water. Dissolve and strain. Label: Aperient Solution a tablespoonful, more or less, to be taken in a pint of water at Several draughts in the morning.
Take one ounce of Sarsaparilla Root, two drachms of the Bark of the root of Mezereon. Cook down from four pounds of water to two, adding at the end: one ounce of shaved Liquorice root and two drachms of shaved Sassafras. Strain and Label: Aperient Decoction
