Normalized Text
For Henry Barclay Esqr.
A disagreeable complication of gouty & catarrhal complaints.
The vomits & laxatives given by Dr. McKilay very proper
but something farther necessary.
A Blister between shoulders. His nausea will hardly
admit any use of expectorants; but the recipe below will
suit both his gout & breast complaints I daresay Dr M.
has tried pectorals; & fomentations, poultices or even
blisters to his lower extremities.
Take a drachm of Gum Guaiacum, ½ a drachm of Balsum of Tolu and 2 drachms of refined White Sugar. Rub together into a fine powder, then add an ounce of coarse Gum Arabic paste. Rub in thoroughly again and gradually pour over 3½ ounces each of Peppermint Water and Rosewater, and an ounce of Balsamic syrup. Mix. Label: Pectoral & Stomachic Mixture a tablespoonful several times a day more or less frequently as the stomach & bowels bear it.
