For Mr Mackie. from p.109.

I plainly percieve the effects of winter upon you.
Your chief complaint you giddiness arises entirely from
your Stomach. For this I have hitherto advised the
Chalybeate & I hope you took this long & in large quantity
In this case I shall not insist upon it more especially
in this Season.

Guard against cold. keep at home, especially in
damp weather or even in frost unless you take brisk
exercise. I am not fond of much vomiting in weak
stomachs but you may take a gentle one now and if
it relieve the Sourness & flatulence & giddiness you
may take another in two or three weaks after.

But if you find either small or short relief from it
you must not repeat it more than once. After the vo¬
mit
try a medicine prescribd below. 60 drops on a
bit of sugar without any liquid; but a little brandy &
water to wash it down. The dose is to be taken three
times a day; an hour before every meal. By your question
I suspect you have not taken the number of doses I

proposed & I would not bid you enter upon them now
till we have better weather. But if it is your own
opinion from experience, to try them again do it
as I last advised; & if you find it more convenient
you may take the forenoon & afternoon doses together
tho I think it would be better with an interval of
two or three hours.

Take two ounces of Elixir Proprietas Vitriolicum or, preferably, Vitriol. Label. Sixty drops, &c.
