Dr A. Wemyss Concerning Mr Brodie
Dear Sir

I am sorry to find Mr Brodie's com (↑still↑) continues to complain but I hope
the pains he had on Sunday may come back again & that they would continue
steady ↑for any time↑ they would prove his most effectual remedy If they shall not
we must try to releive him otherwise. I beleive it will not

[Page 2]

be easy to releive him his Diarrhoea but by Laudanum, & if the
diarrhœa should be both painfull and Copious I think you must try
the Laudanum. I am still of opinion that nothing would do him
more service than a journey & if he cannot ride forty miles aday
he may ride ten & if he will increase it gradually by a few miles
every day he will soon come to bear forty. You say he made
a fair trial of riding, but I never knew an effectual trial made
but by a journey of some length & if Mr Brodie cannot bear the
necessary riding he may possibly bear a Chaise & that is the
next best I never found anything more effectual in curing
the diarrhœa. If Mr Brodie will not try traveling in any shape
I have no objection to trying a blister and Issue in his legs.
It may be of some service tho seldom of much or very durable
benefit. --- I am &c. &c.
