For Miss Betty Nasmyth.

Take two ounces of Elixir Proprietas Vitriolicum and half an ounce of liquid laudanum. Label it: Stomachic drops of which 50 make one dose.

This to be taken only when the pains of your
stomach come on. You are to take 50 drops of it
on a bit of sugar. It does not do so well, put into any
liquid but you may wash it down with a mouthful
of water. If the first dose does not give you relief
in half an hour you may take a second: & after you
are acquainted with the medicine & know how it works,
you may in the case of the pain continuing take
even a third dose, but no farther without informing
you how it has answered with you.

Such complaints are commonly attended with

costiveness & made much severe by it. In this
case take a Chamberlains pill or some other
medicine to remove it as often as any occasion
