For Mrs A. B.

I think the tumor is in the Ovarium but seems to
be of not a bad kind: for as it has formed no adherence
to the teguments & is without pain there is no suspicion of
its being hydropic, but I imagine it is a little more
bulky than your feeling discovers for it seems to press on
both nerves & veins & possibly on one ureter. The Event
I think doubtful. I have known such a tumor subsist
long without inconvenience & some time discussed,
& this by the medicine I am to advise. The Cicuta
with Mercury. Let the Cicuta be good. Begin with

two grains for a dose, increasing gradually till it have sensible ef¬
fects. Every other night take a Mercurial pill that is
a grain of triturated Mercury. If this either purge or go to
her mouth, diminish the dose or give it at greater intervals.
Continue this for a month in which time it will either
shew some power in diminishing the tumor or may be de¬
spaired of. The Cicuta should be continued in for
months in order to see any effects from it. During the
use of the Mercury she should keep at home but unless
it go more to her mouth than I expect, any close con¬
finement will be unnecessary.

During this course Diet of a middling kind.
Broth & a little animal food once a day but it should
be of the lighter kinds. The rest, milk & farinacea
for roots & greens are not proper during the use of the
Mercury. For ordinary drink, water, & not malt li¬
quor. For some time abstain from all kind of
strong drink. Keep her belly regular and by
a laxative if necessary.

Exercise gentle on horseback or in a carriage but
without any violent bodily motion. Walking within or
without doors proper but should never stand still for any
length of time. Guard particularly against Cold.
