For Mrs Maclean.


1. Let her take two of the Stomachic pills every second night at bedtime.
If after taking these frequently they lose their effect in stopping the
vomiting and in giving sleep she may take three for a dose.


If however they stop the vomiting very entirely or for more than
two days following it will be enough to take the pills every
third or fourth night.


2. Every morning after taking the pills the night before, let her
take one of the Stomachic pills in a little water.


3. If this powder does not give her a motion of her belly, let
her take next morning a dose of the Laxative Salts dissolved in
whey & taken at two draughts as before directed.


4. If in spite of either the powder or salts she may misses
to have a motion of her belly, she should on the evening before
she is to take her pills, take an Injection of three gills of
water, a table spoonfull of Common salt & two table spoonfulls
of sweet oil.


5. In diet Let her attempt to take a bit of solid meat at dinner.
but till her appetite are better, it must be very little & of the
lightest kind, & her safest food at dinner will be beef tea with
a little toasted bread in it. For breakfast and supper let her
try milk in the following manner. Take Milk as fresh
from the Cow as it can be got and mix it with an equal part
of thin water gruel. Sweaten the whole very well with
Sugar and take this mixed milk with bread, rice, barley
Sago or oatmeal as she would do plain milk. If milk
even Managed in the manner does not digest with her

she must take beef tea with bread or the kinds of grain
mentioned. - For drink she must take plain water.
avoiding all kinds of on wine or malt Liquors . At dinner
or supper she may take two or three glasses ofwater with an eight
part of spirits in it.


6. It will do her great service to be much in the fresh air
& in gentle execreise. Her walking however must be very
moderate & it is going on horseback that will only be of great
benefit to her. Whether going in a Carriage or on horseback
let it be no more than her strength easily bears.
