Have considered your mothers case
& frum the account given have little doubt of its nature. Per¬
suaded she has stones in her Gall Bladder & the passing of
these stones gives the severe fits mentioned. Letting of
blood
when the fits come on will be of service in modera¬
ting them & & after the bleeding she may have a pretty large
dose of Laudanum. At the same time flannel cloths wrung
out very strongly may be applied very warm to the pit of the
stomach. Servicable to give her at the same time an in¬
jection
of warm water & as much as a large bag will
hold ; These are the means for moderating her fits ; but
preventing them altogether will not be so easy. No
Use in bleeding her after the fits are over. Nice I say
to keep her belly regular & nothing fitter than the cas¬
tile soap
. I will say no more at present but be
sire this may be communicated to Dr Stirling &
that he will give me his account & remarks on
the case, when I shall add what further remarks I
can .
