Dr Hamilton. Miss Macmurdo ---
Dear Sir.
I wrote you on friday & told you why I would not
write sooner. I was favoured with another from you & unto you
in course. I told you on friday that I suspect the tendency to
Thisis to be more aparant & that matter are now settled in that
state is passed all doubt. In that state however you know how
little is to be done but we must paliate as well as we can.
The acids I recommended in my last are likely to be of service
& you may try her with the decoction prescribed on 'tother page.
A perpetual Issue may also be of service but the only
considerable relief is to be obtained by opiates & I am sorry
to find that her Stomach does not seem to agree with them
but one trial is not enough to determine that. --
[Page 2]
Begin again with 15 drops without letting her know that she
is getting them & you may perhaps find her Stomach reconcile
to the larger doses that may be necessary. If you find it sufficien↑t↑
to cover the suspicion of Laudanum you may give 40 drops
of the Elxir Paregoricum. of the Selzer water I wrote you
in my last. If you are of a different opinion or have already pro¬
posed it I shall still endeavour to send you some.
I am &cc.
