For Mr Mcaulay ––

After considering the whole of Mr Mcaulay's complaints I am of opinion
that he has no internal complaints I am of opinion that he has no internal
ailment & that his uneasiness arises entirely from an affection of
the muscles on one side of his belly.

To relieve this I would have him as soon as he is settled in any
place to apply a blister to the pained side of his belly. It may be about
six inches long & three broad
– and should be laid from about an inch
below the short ribs downwards on the right side of the navel but
without touching that part. –––– This blister is to be healed
up
in course & which will be in seven or eight days & then the part
in which the pain is cheifly seated should be anointed every night
& morning with the oil
prescribed in the other page, keeping the
part constantly covered with a piece of flannel. –– These remedies
will, I hope, entirely discuss the pain complained of, but if in the course
of two or three weeks, they shall not have discussed it entirely or if
after having put it away it shall again return, in either case it will
be proper to repeat the blistering & anointing once more. – While these
remedies are employed are employed it will be proper at the same
time to observe great temperance both in eating & drinking & to use as
much exercise as possible.

Take two ounces of best Olive Oil and two drachms each of distilled Sassafras and Spirit of Ammoniac Salts. Mix. Label: Anodyne Oil.
