For Mr Ferguson .
The uncommon seat of it makes his complaint a little doubtful,
but having shifted its place & appeared in another share, no doubt
remains of its being Rheumatic --
I expect little good from continuing the warm bath or the appli¬
cation formerly ordered.
I trust now the Cure to flannel drawers & flesh brush.
Apply this every night & morning, gentle but long continue; across
the Shearbone especially on the left side & about the hip joint &
down the thigh in the course of the pain to the knee-
Moderate walking is allowable - but quick or much, is bad.
A Carriage will do much, but this should be never long
continued at one time without interposing walking. He
may try to ride a little, at first very gently, & if it dont re¬
new the complaints in making water, it will be good for
the Rheumatism -- These measures with warm weather will
entirely remove this complaint, but if not now now & entirely I
advise a blister to his thigh immediately below the hip joint. The
plaster 6 inches long. 4 broad -- Apply it late at night, & dont
let it lye long for fear of Strangury & this also maybe ob¬
viated by his drinking plentifully of Emulsion or other wa¬
tery liquor--
Avoid cold or wet; particularly in his feet & legs. Not necessary
to restrict him to a low diet but a full diet either in meat or in
drink will do much harm.
