To Lord Cochran Concerning Capt. Gilchrist

The Captains System quite worn out ---

The steel Powders could do little unless He had had
more time - Your Lordship wishes his last moments
should be as easy as possible - The best means I can
think of is the applying a plaister of Venice Treacle to
the pit of his Stomach and moistening it from time to time
with the Anodyne balsam -- His making no urine
I impute to little or no liquid passing beyond his Stomach & it
cannot be well mended unless the Plaster proposed should give
him some relief & abate his vomiting. In the mean time it
may be of service to throw in once or twice a day a large Glyster
of warm water alone ---
