For Alexr Campbell Esqr.


Tho his ailments be so much mended that he may expect
to be in time entirely free from them yet so long as his
legs continue to be liable to swelling it is a mark
of some laxity & weakness of Constitution.

Therefore to remedy this he is to take the following medicines.
OOf the strengthening powder as much as will lye on a shilling twice
a day, mixed with a little currant jelly or berry, but must
not be taken in a liquid. - An hour or a little more before
dinner & Supper. Wash down each dose with half a gill of the
following. Take one of the papers of the Bark powder ordered below
& in a tea pot pour on a choppin of boiling water. Let the
Pot stand near the fire 24 hours. Then strain off thro a
thick flannel & to the strained liquor add 4 tablespooonful of
the Strengthening Tincture & put the whole in a bottle –– When
one bottle is done prepare another in the same way X


I have no other directions as to Diet & Exercise, than
before

Take 2½ drachms of prepared Steel filings, 4½ drachms of ground Cinnamom and 5 drachms of white Lump Sugar. Mix to make a powder. Label: Strengthening powder

Take 8 ounces of Tincture half a drachm of powdered Peruvian Bark, and make from this 4 papers. Label: bark powder.
