this gentlemans ailments, commonly obstinate, but time & pains will
do a great deal to relieve him. I have prescribed two remedies which I have
often found effectuall. The one is in pills, 2 or 3 every night at bed time.

[Page 2]

The other is in powders of which he is to take one in a little currant
jelly or water berry every forenoon. These medicines to continued only for
a fortnight at a time & then laid aside for another fortnight. After which the
ailments be not removed he should enter upon a 2d course & thus intermitt¬
ing always sometime between the Courses, may take 3 or 4 courses in
the winter. Thy require no confinement & little change of Diet. Must
abstain from all salted meat, fish, cheese, & moderately of eggs. -
Otherwise he may take any ordinary fare, but moderate at dinner
& no supper at all. Avoid strong drink as the least [exception?]
that will do much harm --- A great deal of fresh air &
exercise horseback or carriage but never to fatigue. With res¬
pect to other medicines the Lotion should be for some time laid aside for
to be used only in case of being threatened to return of the scalding
& eructation --- but I hope all returns of that will be prevented
by the Liniment now ordered to which he is to anoint the the parts every morning
for 5 or 6 days to come. but after that, it will be enough every
2d or 3d night till the parts be restored to their usual moisture.

When any inflammation remains upon the part to which the pom¬
tice
has been hitherto applied, continue it, but hope it may
be soon laid aside & only to be again used, when inflammation
thereafter to return.
