For Miss Mary Lockhart
After considering the whole of her complaints think they
depend on a weakness of Stomach occasioning frequent indigestion.
This if neglected, of the worst consequences --
Diet. A little Animal food at dinner - but avoid the
heavier &c. No fried or baked meats. --- fill up her
meal with pudding &c. To prevent her making of too full
meal - she may take a [bason?] of weak beef Tea not very
weak & some toasted bread with it. She may at times
take some fish but not often - avoiding the heavier
kinds as Salmon herrings. ---
Be sparing of Vegetables & not at all when her
Stomach is disposed to sourness -- At other times a dry
mealy potatoe is the safest she can take - No pickles
lemon & very little Vinigar.
At Supper she may take a little very light
meat - but better some milk meat if she has
been used to meat at Supper - a soft boiled Egg --
Avoid all fruit till her Stomach is better --
No Tea or Coffee - Best Breakfast Cocoa Tea --
Dry Toast & a little butter -- no Sweets to her bread.
Ordinary Drink plain or toast water - no malt liquor. nor wine -
if she has been in use - a little Spirits & water without sowring.
As much fresh air & exercise as she can - Avoid late hours or
lying long in the morning If her ailments dont mend I advise the fol¬
lowing medicine
