For Mr Wemyss.
ailments moderate. but dangerous kind, & tho at the season easy. may
against winter prove violent.
1. a voyage to a south climate, & after it reside for winter in a
climate not very warm but free from cold.
2. entirely avoid animal food at sea or land, & all strong drink.
& his diet must - be milk, grain, & garden things particularly fruit.
Milk does not agree with him, but just now he takes meat &
wine. Lay aside these & may digest it better, & if even then plain
milk do not agree, mix it with an equal of thin water gruel &
sweeten it well with sugar.
In order to have a Vegetable diet at sea, have recourse to the various
preparation & combination of those he lays in. Guard ga
against cold. Flannel shirt next skin & otherwise always warmly
cloathed. When on shore exercise on horseback easy & gentle.
Bodily exercise except most easy & gentle, bad.
Continue the issue in his neck. or if inconvenient, a pea issue
into the arm & an issue in some shape continued till next
summer & perhaps longer. --- Avoid heating medicines
The mixture of oil & syrup of Poppies &c or a mixture made
to mucilaginous instead of oil must be employed for his cough.
In case of restless nights, a dose ↑of Pills↑ made of Squills & Opium,
but seldom as possible. In case of costiveness, a dose of
some laxative, especially Castor oil.
