Normalized Text

Mr Parlane about Mrs Hopekirk.

Her only complaint is costiveness. at least if that were removed her
other complaints would cease. After you have tried so many Laxative
I would try Castor oil. Best here & send {illeg} to you by the fly
al eight ounces. When I give it, I add a dram or two of [duble?] rum
to every ounce, for taste & for sitting on the Stomach. Put some
quantity of the oil & spirit into a little Phial, & the patient should be
ready to drink it immediately as itis poured out after shaking it.

A table spoonful in most persons procures one stool. Mrs H. may
possibly require 2 or 3, but few bear a bulky dose, & in that case
I desert it & try some thing else.
