For Miss Wilkie


Nervous & somewhat hysteric., rather than any fixed disorder of the brain.


Being now so much recovered, may entirely by country, quiet, diet, air &
exercise.


Live retired, only a few familiar friends, may be the better of these.


Avoid the appearance of restraint, but much indulgence hurtful.


Diet Middling. Drink water, but if costive & her stomach bearit.
may take small beer. She hating wine, must not be urged to it.


In her present condition fresh air & gentle exercise in permitting wea¬
ther, of much service. may walk a littlel but better in a carriage
2 or 3 hours every forenoon So few of Regimen few meds. necessary


Avoid costiveness by injection of medicines see the medicine below.


Till her natural sleep be established, frequently at bed time take the
Cephalic Draught as she has been used to do, & see below.


If her complaintsreturn or become more considerable, may take
the Cephalic Julep ordered below. & in those circumstances
shave her head & apply a blister.

Take two ounces each of Rose water, and cinnamon; half-an-ounce each of soluble Tartar and White sugar. Mix. Label: Laxative draught. Take in the morning mixed with half a muchkin of spring water, not very cold, in two or three draughts at an inverval of half an hour. Note: soluble Tartar may be taken in a larger doses as circumstances demand.

Take peppermint Water, six ounces of Volatile tincture of valerian, thirty drops of simple Syrup. Mix and Label: Cephalic Draught, to be taken at bed time. Note: this may be changed by substituting the Tincture of valerian for Tincture of castor.

Take one scruple each of the best Musk and white Sugar; add two ounces of gum Arabic. Gently again add half-an-ounce of simple Syrup and two-and-a-half ounces each of Rose water and cinnamon, and two ounces each of Tincture of castor and valerian. Mix. Label: Cephalic Julep. One or two table spoonfuls every three or four hours.
