Since the report of
Mr. Bethunes Case on Friday morning
all the morbid symptoms have been
more favourable. The Electuary that day
procured five or six watery tho not copious
Stools, no Drought, Urine is rather upon the
increase, Swelling on the Limbs much the
same, no Exudation, Pass'd a pretty good
night, Cough'd little, & slept tolerably well
Saturday morning free & easy realished his
Breakfast took an Airing near two hours bore
it well, Dinner still went well down. No
Drought rather dislikes every kind of wine
but continues to take it still keeping free

& easy and in better Spirits, made a better
Supper than he has done for three weeks
past- Urine still upon the increase, Swelling
upon the Limbs this evening not diminished
but a considerable exudation, Cough'd little
or none thro the night Slept a good deal
free & easy this morning (Sunday) Continuous
much better & in good Spirits pass'd more
Urine this last nights than he has done in
a given time since his illness, not so turbid
& less Lateritious sediment, not the least
Drought, Œdematous swelling much the
same, no Exudation- Got less Electuary about
the usual time is just now operating,- Had
this morning early a Copious natural Stool
which he commonly has the day he does not

take the Electuary, have laid aside the Garlic,
continues to take daily about three drams
of Crem: Tart: disolv'd in a small proportion
of water with Sugar which he does not
dislike, Pulse this morning 86- Sores all
looking better that on the Scrotum almost heal
have therefore [pospon'd?] every application to the Limbs
thinking it a question whether or not the Exuda¬
tion may become Critical especially as [the]
morbid Symptoms are not increased since
as I have that the Pill. Hydraragyro according
to the last edition of Pharmacopœia Edinburgensis propose to give
half a grain of dryd squills with a little nutmeg
in the form of a Pill this Evening. Still I got the
With Pil. Hydrar: from Edinburgh this week
