For Mr. Samuel Charlton

After considering the whole of his history [I am]
of opinion, that his ailment is very entirely of the
paralytic kind. He seems to have recovered a
great deal and I don't doubt but he may reco¬
ver very entirely in some length of time.

To promote this he must take great care to -
avoid cold and for this he should have flannel -
every where next to his skin, and to be otherwise very
well cloathed. The only other remedies I can
recommend are Electricity and cold bathing. This
last cannot be properly begun in the sea till some
summer sets in ↑in↑ the month of May. In the mean¬
time the Electricity should be employed. To have the
proper application of this he should have a small ma¬
chine in his own house so that it may ↑be↑ applied

every day. There is no occasion for any violent
shocks
and there is more benefit got by moderate
shocks
repeated very often.

It is very proper in such cases to keep the belly
regular and by a medicine if necessary, but it should
be one of the most gentle that can answer ↑the↑ purpose.

Mr Charltons diet should be neither full nor low
but he should be most strictly temperate with res¬
pect to every kind of strong drink.
