I am concerned to inform you that
Mr James Cochrane has been much worse these some
days. His Right Side is grown very hard the Swelling of
his Belly is much encreased and he complains of a
great pain in the left Side low down - He has a
tolerable good passage in his belly ↑twice a day↑ and Makes water freely
but is otherways extremely Ill not having rested these
two Nights and so weak as not to be Able to quit his
Bed. -- Upon the receipt of your letter I gave over
the thoughts of Making Use of the injections. Mrs Gilchrist
thinks that the Oil with which he is Rub'dd has not
done him so much good as that which he made use
of in town - we have given him the Castor Oil twice
and continue his drops regularly. He has but a
small Appetite and his strength is so much failed
that I fear he will not be Able to hold it out much
Longer. be so kind as to write Me by return of post
informing Me if you think Any thing else should be
done with him I am with great respect
