Sir

Since I had the pleasure of seeing you
have adhered strictly to your directions by beginning with
one of the Pills mentioned in your recipe and increasing
the number to the amount of 8 or 9, without their
either purging or making me the least squeamish
The only regimen I adhered to was wheat Bread, Rice,
or Barley with milk which has rendered me a little
Costive. -- During the time I remained in Edinburgh
and about a month after I arived here was not in
the least troubled with my Complaint, till within
these fourteen days past have been frequently as
bad as before seeing you last --- As not only the
Box you ordered me in your Recipe which contained 40
pills, but two more which I commissioned from the same
hand and containing the like number are exhausted
would be infinitely obliged to you to write me in Course
if I am to continue taking the Pills, & to what number I
am to increase the dose --- Also if I am to continue

the Regimen as formerly, or substitute any other
in place of it, with what further directions you think
proper for me to observe, and for this and any further
trouble you may be put to shall be paid by.
