Sir

The Bearer Mr John Cockburn
a Tenant of Mr. [Fordyce?] of Ayton - a very
Honest and industrious man has for about
Twelve months past been much troubled with
Nephritic Complaints and for which he has
us'd at different times a variety of Li¬
thontriptic Medicines
with some Advantage
But as he still feels in some degree
the same kind of Symptoms hanging about
him he at my request has agreed to
Submit his Complaints to your Consideration
which I have Assur'd him you will do
with Attention --- The principal things
I order'd him were Saponaceous Laxa¬
tives
, Lime Water & Soap Pills I enjoin'd
him to a Milk Diet and forbid the use

of Malt & Spirituous Liquors

I shall be extremely happy if you
are led (as I have every reason in
the world to expect) to a Course that
will totally eradicate the Cause of this
worthy mans Complaints And

I am
with perfect esteem
